$690K house fire sends one to hospital

An early morning blaze northwest of London's downtown sent one person to hospital Sunday.

Firefighters were called to a single detached home on Summit Avenue, west of the Oxford Street and Wharncliffe Road intersection around 6:30 a.m. When crews arrived they found the home fully engulfed in flames.

A man who was home when the blaze started was taken to hospital with unknown injuries, fire officials said.

Damages to the house were initially estimated to be around $450,000, however, that was increased to $690,000 following further inspection.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
