UPDATE: Severe thunderstorm watch ended for Oxford County

A severe thunderstorm watch has ended for Oxford County, Woodstock and Tillsonburg.

Environment Canada issued the watch Saturday afternoon and said conditions were favourable for the development of severe weather that might be capable of producing strong wind gusts, large hail and heavy rain.

The release said to expect wind gusts up to 90 kilometres per hour with nickel to toonie sized hail, torrential downpours and a risk of tornadoes.

The statement said, "Severe thunderstorm watches are issued when atmospheric conditions are favourable for the development of thunderstorms that could produce one or more of the following: large hail, damaging winds, torrential rainfall."

They recommend that you take cover immediately if you're caught in threatening weather.

Environment Canada ended the watch just after 5 p.m.
