Man arrested with firearm while on parole

St. Thomas police have arrested a 39-year-old Oakville resident Friday, after being called to assist the OPP repeat offender parole enforcement unit (ROPE) with an arrest in St. Thomas.

According to police, the suspect was located and while being searched officers observed what they believed to be a firearm under the rear passenger seat.

With a warrant, the police searched the vehicle and found a loaded 9mm handgun and additional ammunition under the rear passenger seat.

The man has been charged with several crimes including three counts of possession of a firearm contrary to a prohibition order, careless storage of a firearm, and knowledge of unauthorized possession of a firearm.
