A Brampton man is facing charges after a pair of robberies that saw a ride-share driver stabbed in northwest London.
The bizarre incident started when a man walked into a mobile phone business on Fanshawe Park Road West near Hyde Park Road around 10:15 a.m. on Friday. He passed a written note to an employee that said he had a weapon. The man proceeded to rob the store of multiple phones.
He then fled to an awaiting vehicle that he had pre-arranged to pick him up through a ride-share service. Once inside the vehicle, the man pulled a knife and stabbed the driver before pushing him out. He then took off with the vehicle and some of the driver's personal property.
London police were called and found the stolen vehicle outside of a cellular store on Adelaide Street North around 11 a.m. According to police, while attempting to rob the store the man assaulted an employee. He then got back into the stolen vehicle and hit a marked police cruiser before being arrested.
One person suffered minor injuries in the ordeal, police said.
A 23-year-old Brampton man is charged with seven offences including armed robbery, disguise with intent, assault with intent to steal, theft of a motor vehicle, and failure to stop for police. He remains in custody and is scheduled to appear in court on Tuesday.
