A teen cyclist forced a temporary shut down of a section of Highway 401 in London.
OPP received multiple calls about a person riding a bicycle in the eastbound lanes of the busy highway at Wonderland Road shortly after 11:30 a.m. on Sunday.
Police briefly closed the highway in order to get the cyclist off the road safely.
A 16-year-old from Southwest Middlesex is charged with riding a bicycle on a controlled-access highway and being a pedestrian using a controlled-access highway. The accused has been released from police custody with a future court date.
"It is illegal for pedestrians and cyclists to be on 400-series highways, as well as on- and off-ramps due to the risks to safety for pedestrians and the motoring public," OPP reminded in a statement issued Monday.
