Theft leads police to drugs, stolen vehicle

A call about a person stealing from a west-end business helped London police seize illegal drugs and recover a stolen vehicle.

A person called 911 after seeing a man stealing items from a business in the area of Wonderland Road South and Commissioners Road West around 6:10 p.m. on Tuesday. Police were given a description of the suspect and the vehicle he was seen leaving the area in. It was quickly determined the vehicle involved had been reported stolen on April 22.

Officers found the vehicle heading north on Wonderland and tried to stop it. The driver did not pull over for police, and reportedly sped away from the area at a high rate of speed.

Officers did not pursue the vehicle, police said.

The vehicle was found again a short time later near Berkshire and Springbank drives. The driver got out of the vehicle and allegedly tried to run away before being arrested.

No injuries were reported.

A search of the vehicle turned up an unspecified amount of drugs, police said.

A 29-year-old London man is charged with seven offences including impaired driving, possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000, dangerous driving, failing to stop for police, driving while suspended, and possession of drugs for the purpose of trafficking. The man was scheduled to appear in London court on Wednesday.
