Driver ejected in Highway 401 crash involving transport dead

One person was killed when they were thrown from a pickup truck that collided with a transport truck on Highway 401 in south London.

The two-vehicles collided in the eastbound lanes of the highway at Colonel Talbot Road around 3 p.m. on Tuesday.

The driver of the pickup was ejected and pronounced dead at the scene, OPP Sergeant Ed Sanchuk said. The identity of that individual has not been released.

The transport driver was not hurt.

The eastbound lanes between Colonel Talbot and Wonderland Road were closed for several hours while the OPP traffic incident management and enforcement team was on scene. It reopened around 9 p.m.

“We’re trying to put the pieces of the puzzle back together," Sanchuk said. "If you were travelling along Highway 401 in the eastbound lanes, or even the westbound lanes, and have a dash-camera which may have picked up this crash we are asking you to review your footage and get in touch with our investigators at 1-888-310-1122."

Drivers in the westbound lanes were advised to focus on driving and not taking pictures of the crash.

"Do us a favour, put your safety as a priority. We don’t need to be investigating another crash," Sanchuk said.
