Funeral for man killed in downtown fight to be held Thursday

The funeral of the 21-year-old London man who died after getting into a fight on Richmond Row has been set.

Malik Edwards was critically injured in the fight with another man on Richmond Street near John Street around 1:20 a.m. on March 28. He was taken to hospital where he died days later. London police determined the two men were not known to each other prior to the fight.

Julius Enongene, a 47-year-old Uber driver, has been charged with manslaughter in Edwards' death.

Edwards was described as funny and kind by the organizer of a GoFundMe campaign launched to raise money to cover funeral costs. As of April 9, the fundraiser had earned more than $25,000.

His obituary echoed those sentiments, saying "Malik will be missed for his contagious smile and his ability to make those around him feel good."

Two visitations will be held for Edwards at Westview Funeral Chapel at 709 Wonderland Road North on Wednesday. The first will take place from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m., the second is scheduled between 7 p.m. and 9 p.m.

The funeral will be held at the chapel at 1:30 p.m. on Thursday.

Donation in memory of Edwards can be made to Salthaven Wildlife Rehabilitation and Education Centre in Mount Brydges.
