Two guns, variety of drugs seized by St. Thomas police

Two St. Thomas men are facing charges after two guns and more than $8,000 worth of drugs were seized during arrests earlier this week.

As part of a drug trafficking and weapons investigation, St. Thomas police went to a home in the west-end of the city and an Aylmer home to arrest two men on Tuesday.

Searches of the homes turned up a 9mm Colt handgun, a loaded .22 calibre rifle, ammunition, cocaine, methamphetamine, crack-cocaine, prescription pills, drug paraphernalia, and a Rolex watch. Police estimate the total value of the drugs seized is $8,084.

A 20-year-old man is charged with nine gun and drug offences including carrying a concealed weapon, unauthorized possession of a prohibited or restricted firearm, possession of weapon for dangerous purpose, possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000, and possession of drugs for the purpose of trafficking.

A 19-year-old man is charged with four gun offences including unauthorized possession of a prohibited or restricted firearm, knowledge of unauthorized possession of firearm, and careless storage of firearm, weapon, prohibited device or ammunition.

The 20-year-old has been remanded into custody, while the 19-year-old was released on an undertaking with a future court date.
