A 35-year-old man is accused of trying to grab an Aylmer police officer's gun during an arrest Sunday night.

Police were called to a break and enter in progress just after 10 p.m. A man was reportedly trying to break into a home he was barred from entering under a court order.

"As officers attempted to place the man under arrest, he fought police, actively resisted arrest and tried to remove an officer's pistol from the holster," police said in a statement.

The man was eventually taken into custody.

A Springfield man is charged with two counts of failing to comply with a release order, resisting arrest, breaking and entering, and disarming a peace officer. He was held overnight and was scheduled to appear in court Monday morning.
