Toronto Maple Leafs Alumni to play St. Thomas police for charity

No matter who scores the most goals, it is CMHA Thames Valley Addiction & Mental Health Services that will be the big winner at a St. Thomas charity hockey game involving Toronto Maple Leafs alumni.

The game scheduled for April 20 at the Joe Thornton Community Centre will see hockey legends, including Wendel Clark, take on St. Thomas police officers. All proceeds raised through the event will go toward mental health and addiction services in St. Thomas and Elgin County.

“Events like these play an essential role in raising awareness and funds for programs and services in our community," said Wendy Sanderson, the director of fund development and communications at CMHA Thames Valley.

To date, the Leafs alumni roster includes head coach Dave Hutchison, goalie Adam Munro, Wendel Clark, Rick Vaive, Gary Leeman, Dave Mcllwain, Al Iafrate, Todd Gill, and Ric Jackman.

“I am delighted to see the Toronto Maple Leafs alumni and members of our Police Services coming together for such a worthy cause,” said St. Thomas Mayor Joe Preston. “This event not only showcases the spirit of community, but also demonstrates a commitment to supporting mental health and addiction initiatives in St. Thomas. I commend all participants for their efforts in making a positive impact on our community’s well-being.”

Tickets for the charity game can be purchased online through EventBrite as of Monday. Physical tickets will also be for sale on March 10 at a fundraiser taking place at title sponsor Stay True Tattoo. VIP tickets which include a special meet-and-greet with the players before the game will be available on those dates.
