Headless canine, possibly a coyote, found on beach

Provincial police in Elgin County are looking for answers after the headless remains of a canine were found on the beach in Port Stanley.

The discovery was made around 3:40 p.m. on Saturday on the beach off Edith Cavell Boulevard.

"The exact species of the animal remains has not been determined, but did appear to be a lone, medium-size canine, possibly a coyote," the OPP said in a media release issued Tuesday.

Police say staff with the Municipality of Central Elgin were contacted to remove the remains and dispose of them properly.

A police investigation continues.

Anyone with any information is asked to call the Elgin County Ontario Provincial Police at 1-888-310-1122. Tips can also be sent in anonymously to Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
