UPDATE: Police identify suspect in ongoing stabbing investigation

St. Thomas police say they have identified a suspect wanted in connection with an early morning stabbing on Scott Street.

Officers were called to the area of Scott Street and Hamilton Street at 12 a.m. on Saturday for reports of an altercation between two people who knew each other.

Police said that when they arrived, there was no one on the scene.

During the investigation, it was determined that the victim had been driven to the hospital. Officers went to the St. Thomas Elgin General Hospital where they learned that the victim was being treated for multiple stab wounds, which have been labelled serious but non-life-threatening.

Police have identified the suspect as 54-year-old Jeff Church of St. Thomas.

He is wanted for charges of aggravated assault and assault with a weapon.

There is no threat to public safety at this time but police are asking the public to not approach the suspect and to call police, immediately.
