No charges coming to London police over October arrest

Ontario's Special Investigations Unit (SIU) has cleared London police in connection with an incident in which a woman was injured.

On the morning of October 23, 2023, London officers were on patrol in the area of Oxford Street East and Highbury Avenue North when they spotted a 34-year-old woman who was the subject of an arrest warrant.

The woman was riding a bicycle, and the officers allowed her to take it home while following behind. Once the woman was brought to the police vehicle upon arrival at her home, an altercation ensued, during which one of the woman's fingers was broken.

She was taken to Victoria Hospital for treatment.

In the report released on Friday, SIU Director Joseph Martino said there were no reasonable grounds to charge the officers with a crime.

"There is no basis for proceeding with criminal charges on this case. The file is closed," wrote Martino.
