Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) have appealed to the public for information on a 1999 double homicide in Elgin County.
The provincial government has issued a $50,000 reward for tips leading to the arrest and conviction of anyone responsible for the deaths of Roger Smith and Wendy Haveron in Southwold on February 2, 1999.
Officers for the Elgin County OPP responded with Southwold firefighters to a house fire on Wellington Road in the early morning hours. The investigation revealed that the fire had been set on purpose, and the victims died as a result of blunt force trauma.
The deaths of Smith and Haveron were ruled homicides.
The OPP continues to investigate this incident.
"Police and family members believe that someone may have information regarding the deaths of Roger and Wendy," said OPP Constable Brett Phair. "Investigators are appealing to the public for any information that may help solve these serious crimes. Even a detail someone believed to be insignificant could make a difference."
