Appeal made to find long-time shelter pup a home

At just two-years-old, Bobby the husky mix has spent nearly half of his life living in a shelter.

Now the push is on to find the young pup, along with a few other long-time residents of the Humane Society London and Middlesex (HSLM), a forever home.

The animal agency issued an appeal to the public on Tuesday, asking for help finding an individual who would want to make Bobby part of their family.

"Bobby is incredibly fun-loving and will make a wonderful companion for someone who is committed to continuing with his training,” said Marrissa Sitts, the humane society's animal health director. “Our team will definitely be willing to help provide guidance to help Bobby and his new guardian succeed together.”

Sitts said like many dogs purchased during the pandemic, Bobby didn’t receive adequate training or socialization and was eventually surrendered to the shelter. That is where he has stayed for 343 long days. Over that time, shelter staff have worked with him on behavioural training, making significant improvements. Despite his progression Bobby has yet to be adopted and is currently the shelter's longest resident.

Joining him in his long shelter stay are Okesha and Josie, a bonded pair of senior dogs and Taz, another lovable senior pooch.

Taz, who is often seen walking around the Clarke Road facility grounds with a stuffy in his mouth, has been a resident of the humane society for 234 days, while Okesha and Josie have been there for 132 days.

“Since so many people adopted dogs during the pandemic, there just aren’t as many people looking to adopt dogs right now,” said HSLM Executive Director Steve Ryall. “We are hoping our community can help us find these dogs loving homes - and soon.”
