Suspect sought in assault of basketball player at Waterford high school

Provincial police are asking for the public's help identifying a woman who allegedly assaulted a player during a basketball game at a Waterford high school.

Norfolk OPP were called to investigate the assault at Waterford District High School on Main Street South around 7:20 p.m. on Saturday. Officers arrived and determined that several players of a men's league basketball game had got into a disagreement just before 7 p.m.

While the dispute was taking place, a spectator from the stands got up and assaulted one of the players.

The player suffered minor injuries, police said.

Police are now looking for a woman described as Caucasian, approximately 5'2", with a large build, and brown hair. She was wearing a pink coat, a dark blue hooded sweater, blue jeans, and black boots.

Anyone with information about the woman's identity is asked to call police at 1-888-310-1122 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 (TIPS).
