A man has been charged after a knife was pulled on an off-duty police officer attempting to diffuse a domestic dispute in an Aylmer park.
The officer encountered the "heated" dispute between a man and woman while walking through Steen Park around 10:45 a.m. on Sunday. The officer was attempting to diffuse the situation when the man pulled out a knife and threatened to stab them, Aylmer police said.
At this point, the officer disengaged and called police. However, before they were able to get to the scene, another person saw the man allegedly hitting the woman in the face and tried to intervene. That person was also threatened with the knife, police said.
Police arrived shortly after and arrested a man without incident. A knife was also seized.
A 38-year-old Aylmer man has been charged with two counts of assault with a weapon and uttering threats, and one count of possession of a dangerous weapon, domestic assault, and failure to comply with an undertaking. He is scheduled to appear in court on Monday.
