Fake HVAC worker swipes $1,800 in lotto tickets from gas station

St. Thomas police are looking for a suspect after a person posing as an HVAC worker stole nearly $2,000 worth of lottery tickets from a local gas station.

Police were called to the unnamed gas station to investigate the theft on Tuesday. Officers were told the phoney HVAC employee indicated to the store clerk he was there to perform maintenance on the business' thermostats.

A short time later, the worker left the store with $1,800 worth of scratch-off lottery tickets, police said.

The Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corporation was notified about the theft and has cancelled all of the stolen tickets.

The police criminal investigation branch is continuing to investigate the incident.
