New Year's Day closures in London

The first day of 2024 will come with a variety of closures and some free family-friendly recreation activities in London.

New Year's Day is a statutory holiday so federal, provincial, and municipal government offices, as well as banks, and all London Public Library branches will be closed for the day on Monday. There will also be no mail delivery.

Shopping malls including White Oaks Mall, C.F. Masonville Place, Westmount Shopping Centre, Cherryhill Village Mall, all LCBO stores, Beer Stores, and the Labatt Retail Store on Richmond St. will keep their doors closed. The Covent Garden Market, grocery stores, Costco Wholesale, and most drug stores will also be shut for the day.

Shoppers Drug Mart locations at 510 Hamilton Rd., in Sherwood Forest Mall at 1225 Wonderland Rd. N, and at 1224 Commissioners Rd. W in Byron will be open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Movie theatres, select coffee shops and restaurants, and some convenience stores will be open, but may have reduced hours.

Weather permitting, Londoners can enjoy a skate at the outdoor rinks at Victoria Park and Storybook Gardens Skate Trail (Note: admission is required at Storybook Gardens.

Eldon House will host its annual New Year’s Levee from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. It will include musical entertainment, hot cider, and treats. Admission is by donation.

For people who want to start the new year with some physical activity, the city is offering free recreation drop-in programs on Monday. These include activities like Zumba, badminton, family open gym, arts and crafts and science workshops. To see the full list of free programs available and to pre-register click here.

London Transit will be running on a holiday schedule for the day Monday.

Regular store hours and public transit schedules resume on Tuesday. School-age children and teachers get one more week of holidays. They will return to the classroom on January 8.
