Emergency crews were called to Wharncliffe Road South between Riverside Drive to Becher Street around 5 a.m. on Friday. An SUV collided with a cyclist.
The extent of the cyclist's injuries is not yet known.
The driver of the SUV remained at the scene, police said.
The section of Wharncliffe was closed during the morning commute while police investigated the cause of the collision. The road was reopened around 11 a.m.
Alan Smith will begin his new role with the municipality on July 20.
