Charges have been laid against four people after $10,000 worth of drugs and a weapon were seized from a vehicle stopped at a sobriety checkpoint in Chippewas of the Thames First Nation.
Middlesex OPP, Chippewas of the Thames First Nation police, Munsee-Delaware police, and Oneida Nation police had set up a festive RIDE program checkpoint on Jubilee Road around 8 p.m. on Monday.
A vehicle stopped in the checkpoint was searched. Inside, police found a number of illicit drugs including methamphetamine, crack/cocaine, hydromorphone pills, and drug paraphernalia. The estimated street value of the drugs is $10,000, police said.
An airsoft pistol and an undisclosed amount of cash were also seized.
A 51-year-old woman and a 29-year-old man from Chippewas of the Thames First Nation, a 42-year-old from Forest, and a 44-year-old from Moravian First Nation were arrested.
The four have since been charged with possession of an imitation weapon for a dangerous purpose and three counts of possession of drugs for the purpose of trafficking.
The 29-year-old has additionally been charged with failure to comply with a probation order.
