One person hurt in crash that knocked out power in west London

One person was taken to hospital after a crash that left thousands of people in west London without power Friday morning.

Emergency crews were called after a vehicle collided with a hydro pole on Riverside Drive at Beaverbrook Avenue around 3:30 a.m.

The driver of the vehicle suffered non-life threatening injuries and was taken to hospital for treatment, London police said.

Riverside between Beaverbrook and Upper avenues was closed during the morning commute as a result of the collision. Drivers were asked to avoid the area.

In addition to causing traffic troubles, the crash knocked out power to more than 4,000 London Hydro customers along Riverside into the Oakridge area. Crews are working to repair the damage. Drivers who encounter traffic lights that are out are reminded to treat them as a four-way stop.

Hydro officials anticipate power will be restored by 9:30 a.m.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
