One person is dead and another is in hospital after a head-on crash in the St. Thomas area.
Emergency crews were called to the collision on Highway 3 east of Wellington Road in Central Elgin just after 6:30 a.m. on Wednesday.
Investigators determined two vehicles collided head-on before one was hit by a third vehicle.
A 46-year-old woman from London was taken to hospital where she was later pronounced dead. Her name is not being released "out of respect for the family's privacy," Elgin OPP said.
A 32-year-old from St. Thomas suffered non-life threatening injuries and was taken to hospital for treatment, while a 24-year-old from Straffordville had no serious injuries.
Highway 3 between Wellington Road and Centennial Avenue, as well as the on-ramp from First Avenue, are closed while police probe the cause of the collision and clear debris. The roadway is not expected to reopen for several hours, Constable Brett Phair said just after 11 a.m. Drivers are advised to find an alternate route.
Members of the OPP traffic incident management and enforcement team are still investigating the specific cause of the collision, but there is a possibility weather was a contributing factor, said Phair.
At the time of the collision, roads were slick due to flurries that had moved into the region overnight.
