Ontario's police watchdog is investigating separate weekend interactions with London police that left two people seriously hurt.
The first happened at a hotel on King Street east of Wellington Street around 7:15 p.m. on Saturday. Police were called to the location about a man who was in distress.
Roughly two hours after officers arrived, the man fell from the building. He was taken to hospital with critical injuries.
In a separate incident, London police were called about a trespasser at an establishment on Richmond Street north of Dufferin Avenue around 2:20 a.m. on Sunday.
The man was asked to leave, which he did, only to return a short time later with a knife.
Police were called back and the man allegedly became combative with officers during his arrest. After taking the man into custody police determined he had a serious, non-life threatening injury.
The man was taken to hospital for treatment.
A 22-year-old London man is charged with two counts of assault with a weapon, possession of a dangerous weapon, uttering threats, and resisting arrest.
In both cases, the Special Investigations Unit (SIU) was notified and invoked its mandate.
The SIU is an independent government agency that investigates incidents involving police that have resulted in death, serious injury, or allegations of sexual assault.
