A St. Thomas resident learned the hard way that dressing as your favourite video game character at a public event is a bad idea, if that costume includes a replica gun.
St. Thomas police were called to the Oktoberfest celebrations downtown after a person was seen with what was believed to be a gun on Saturday. Upon arrival, officers found a person dressed in black clothing, with imitation body armour, a face covering, and a replica revolver.
Through further investigation officers learned the individual was dressed like a character from Call of Duty. They advised the person about the potential dangers of wearing that type of costume in public - namely that a replica gun can be mistaken as a real one. Police are trained to treat all guns as real until it can be determined that they are replicas.
The costumed individual was cooperative with officers, police added.
