A new Catholic high school will be built in south London to replace the aging Regina Mundi Catholic College.
The Ontario government announced Thursday that it will provide $51.6 million for the new school. The London District Catholic School Board says the revised figure reflects an increase in material and construction costs, as well as inflation and delays caused by the COVID-19 pandemic.
“This is amazing news for high school students in south London” said Director of Education Vince Romeo in a statement released by the board. “With this updated funding model, we are excited to be able to move forward and build a purpose-built, modern facility designed to serve the school community. We are thankful for the support of the Ministry of Education in moving this project forward.”
The new school will be built on the grounds where the current Regina Mundi stands. It will accomodate 700 students, the same number as the current school.
Construction is expected to begin in the Spring of 2024.
