Two men charged in London human trafficking investigation

Two men are facing serious charges after a London woman was forced into the sex trade, threatened, and assaulted.

London police launched a human trafficking investigation into the incident in late-September.

Investigators determined a London woman had met a man through a mutual friend in November 2022. Just one month into the relationship, the man allegedly began isolating the woman from friends and family, took control of her money, and suggested she perform sexual acts for cash.

The situation escalated last month when the man brought the woman to an Airbnb. He began filming her engaging in sexual acts with him until she refused to continue to comply with his demands. At that point, the woman was threatened and assaulted, police said.

She suffered minor physical injuries in the attack.

A suspect in the case was arrested with the help of Peel Regional Police on September 28.

A 32-year-old Mississauga man is charged with seven offences including assault by suffocation, sexual assault, forcible confinement, criminal harassment by combination of prohibited conduct, material benefit from sexual services, trafficking in persons by recruiting, and uttering threats to cause bodily harm or death.

A 32-year-old London man was also arrested in the case after police determined the woman had been threatened by a friend of the accused. That man is charged with uttering threats to cause bodily harm or death and attempting to obstruct justice.

Both men have scheduled court dates next month.
