Bear spotted in the Strathroy area

Strathroy residents are being told to be on the lookout for a bear that may be wandering around the region.

Strathroy-Caradoc police were called about a possible bear sighting just outside of the town, near Saxton Road and Walkers Drive, just after 12:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Officers searched the rural, wooded area but did not find the animal.

The Ministry of Natural Resources has been advised about the potential sighting.

Police advise the public to be aware of their surroundings and cognizant that a bear may be in that area.

Anyone who does encounter a bear should remain calm, slowly back away while keeping the bear in sight, and wait for it to leave. If the bear doesn't leave, wave your arms and make noise. If the bear is in a tree, leave it alone. The bear will come down when it feels safe.
