St. Thomas police investigating separate weekend assaults

A 15-year-old and a 61-year-old were hurt in two separate assaults in St. Thomas over the weekend.

The first incident happened as the 61-year-old was crossing the road on Elm Street on Saturday. The pedestrian was nearly hit by a dirt bike after which the rider circled back and kicked the pedestrian to the ground. The rider then took off at a "high rate of speed," police said.

The pedestrian suffered minor injuries.

Investigators were able to review surveillance footage of the assault and describe the dirt bike rider as wearing a red motocross suit and a blue helmet.

Then on Sunday, the assault of a teenager was captured on the instant messaging app SnapChat. Police were notified about the violent video a day later.

Officers determined the assault happened in Jonas Park.

A 15-year-old had to be treated in hospital for their injuries.

Suspects in the teen's assault have been identified, police said.

Both incidents remain under investigation.
