Budweiser Gardens bans large purses, bags from venue

Heading to Budweiser Gardens for a show or sporting event? Leave your purse and backpack at home.

The downtown venue has announced a new bag policy that will go into effect this Saturday.

Under the new rules, only small clutch bags no larger than 5” x 8” x 2”, clear bags that do not exceed 12” x 12” x 6”, and large 3.7 litre plastic freezer bags will be permitted into the building.

Items that will now be prohibited include purses, bags or containers larger than 5” x 8” x 2”, computer bags, backpacks, camera bags, coolers, cinch bags, luggage, and briefcases. An exception will be made for medically necessary items.

"We are committed to providing the best possible experience for our fans and guests – as their comfort and safety is always our top priority,” said Brian Ohl, the general manager of Budweiser Gardens. “This new policy will allow us to put into practice a more efficient screening process that will speed up entry times for our fans. Several sports leagues, venues and events have adopted similar bag policies and we believe this is the next step to providing a better overall experience for everyone who visits Budweiser Gardens.”

People who arrive at the venue with a prohibited bag will be asked to return the item to their vehicle before being allowed entry. There will be no lockers or check-in location on site to store prohibited bags.

The decision to limit what bags can be brought into the venue was made during an annual re-evaluation of Budweiser Gardens policies. In addition to speeding up entry times, the change provides consistency for showgoers who have been met with different bag restrictions for different shows.

Over the past couple of years, there have been more requests from various performers stopping at Budweiser Gardens for the venue to limit patrons to smaller or clear bags. That has forced the venue to adjust the policy for one-off shows.

The start date for the new policy was set to coincide with the start of Budweiser Gardens' new season, venue officials said.
