Enrolment at White Oaks Public capped, some registered students moved

Some elementary students in south London won't be going to the school they thought they were this September.

The Thames Valley District School Board has capped enrolment at White Oaks Public School effective immediately and will be busing some of the previously registered students elsewhere.

Capping enrolment will help address capacity issues at the Bradley Avenue school brought on by the rapid increase in the number of families in the school’s attendance area and the holding zones it accommodates, the board said.

Only siblings of current White Oaks students are eligible to register for the school at this time. All other new students who were registered between July 1 and August 20 will now be sent to Nicholas Wilson Public School on Osgoode Drive. The board said transportation will be provided for those students.

"Alternatively, families that registered after June 30 can complete an out of area exemption request for another school where there is space. Transportation will not be provided in this case," the board stated.

The changes announced just two weeks before the start of the new school year will not affect families who registered at White Oaks Public before June 30.

The board is seeking approval from the Ministry of Education to build a new elementary school in southwest London to accommodate the unprecedented growth in the area. The $20.7 million new building would have capacity for 804 students and include a five-room child care centre for 10 infants, 30 toddlers, and 48 preschoolers. The school would potentially be located at the corner of Regiment and Pack Roads, south of Southdale Road.
