The Ska-Nah-Doht Village and Museum is commemorating a major milestone.
Ska-Nah-Doht (from the Oneida words meaning “the village stands again”) Village and Museum at the Longwoods Road Conservation Area was founded in 1973. It features a recreation Longhouse Village, Heritage Log Cabins, and an indoor museum.
Ska-Nah-Doht Village reflects a Longhouse Village inhabited by the Haudenosaunee along Antler River (or the Thames River) between the years 800 and 1200. Oneida Nation of the Thames is the closest Haudenosaunee Nation to the Longwoods Road Conservation Area today.
The anniversary celebrations will take place on Sunday, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Admission to the conservation area will be free during that time.
Drumming and song by the Warrior Womyn Drum Group will be followed by remarks from community members involved in the early years of the organization and local dignitaries at at 1:00 p.m.
The museum is owned and operated by the Lower Thames Valley Conservation Authority.
