The local public school board has announced its acquisition of a site for a future elementary school in Elgin County.
Thames Valley District School Board (TVDSB) officials say the land for the new Belmont school is located along the south side of Seventh Avenue and west of Snyders Avenue.
The elementary school is being constructed to accommodate 507 students in London, Elgin, and Middlesex counties. It will consolidate enrolment pressures from South Dorchester Public School, with students from Northdale Central Public School, River Heights Public School, Westminster Central Public School, and Davenport Public School attendance areas.
In March of this year, the Ministry of Education announced an additional $3.4 million in funds for the project. Total government funding for the school is projected at $12.1 million.
A community information session about the school will take place this fall. Pending all ministry approvals, the project is expected to be complete by the 2026-27 academic year.
