UPDATE: Putting Zoo hippo head found, police continue investigating vandalism

St. Thomas police continue to search for a suspect after a miniature golf course was damaged over the weekend.

A person broke into the Putting Zoo, an 18-hole-mini golf course on Elm Street next to Pinafore Park, late Saturday night. Once inside the fenced compound the suspect used a power tool to remove the head of Henrietta the Hippo, one of the courses statues.

A man was seen taking off from the scene in a silver car that was waiting nearby, police said.

Police have recovered the fiberglass hippo head, and it's been returned to the Putting Zoo.

A damage estimate has not been released.

Police are asking anyone with information about this incident to call them at 519-631-1224 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).
