Loaded gun, drugs seized near Old East Village

Charges have been laid after a report about a suspicious person in a backyard near London's Old East Village led police to a loaded gun and a quantity of fentanyl.

Officers with the London police community foot patrol unit watched a man wearing a balaclava walk into the backyard of a home on Queens Avenue near Adelaide Street North around 4:30 p.m. on Monday. Soon after, a resident of the home notified officers that the strange man was not known to them.

Police approached the man behind the home and while speaking with him noticed what appeared to be the handle of a gun sticking out of a satchel he was holding.

The man was arrested.

A search turned up a loaded .22 calibre revolver, 10 grams of suspected fentanyl, and just over $381 cash.

An 18-year-old London man has been charged with unauthorized possession of a firearm, possession of a firearm contrary to a prohibition order, carrying a concealed weapon, careless storage of a firearm, possession of a loaded regulated firearm, and possession of drugs for the purpose of trafficking. The man was scheduled to appear in London court on Tuesday.
