The top high school athletes from across the province will be coming to London next year.
London and the Western Ontario Secondary Schools Athletic Association have been selected to host the 2024 Ontario Federation of School Athletic Associations (OFSAA) Track and Field Championships. The competition will bring roughly 2,900 athletes from as many as 850 secondary schools to Western Alumni Stadium from June 6 to 8 next year.
“OFSAA is an incredible platform for athletes to challenge themselves against some of the best athletes in the world for their age groups, and an important step for those athletes who wish to pursue their sport at the next level," said Damian Warner, Olympic champion and 2024 OFSAA Track and Field Ambassador. "To this day some of my favourite memories come from OFSAA, and it’s there where I got my first taste of high-level competition. I wouldn’t be where I am today without my experiences at OFSAA."
This will be the first time in 13 years London has played host to the prestigious high school track and field championship. The event was last in London in 2010.
A large contingent of volunteers will be needed to help out at the championships.
"An event of this magnitude requires the dedication and hard work of hundreds of volunteers, and we know that the organizing committee will be devoted to providing a memorable event for all student-athletes, coaches, families and spectators," said OFSAA Executive Director Shamus Bourdon. "We look forward to working with the host committee to create an event that showcases all of the amazing things the region has to offer.”
