No alcohol. No drugs. But all of the fun.
A first of its kind Sober Night Club is coming to London on Friday. The one-night event, hosted by The Sober Connection, will be held at the Fireside Grill and Bar on Commissioners Road East. It offers people a chance to mingle, dance, and let loose in an alcohol and substance-free environment.
"We recognize that there are many people who want to enjoy things, like going to a club or having the club experience, but don't want to have the pressure of using substances," said Sarah Montes, operations manager for EPIC Recovery - the London addiction recovery centre behind The Sober Connection. "There really are no opportunities for that in London and that is where the idea for the Sober Night Club was birthed from."
Montes added that the evening is not just for people recovering from addiction. It is also for people who chose not to partake in booze and drugs and those curious about the sober life-style.
The event comes at a time when demand for non-alcoholic beers and spirits are rising across the country and a larger number of people are ordering mocktails instead of cocktails when dining out.
"This is something that people want. Tickets are selling fast. It looks like we are going to have a sold out event," said Montes. "The venue can hold seating for 125 people and more with standing room. There are still a few tickets left, so we do encourage people to get their tickets before they are gone."
The Sober Night Club will feature a DJ, dancing, door prizes, food, and a wide selection of mocktails.
Tickets, available through thesoberconnection.ca, are $20 with proceeds going to fund future sober events including London's first sober convention on Dundas Place on September 16.
"I really enjoy these events, I love the whole vibe, and so I hope this is just the beginning of many events like this in London," Montes said.
