London firefighters cleared out several businesses in the downtown core Tuesday afternoon due to a gas leak.
Emergency crews responded to 202 Albert Street at around noon for high levels of carbon monoxide. The occupants inside the business evacuated the building due to CO alarms. Buildings located at 565, 567, and 569 Richmond Street also had CO readings and were cleared out.
Two people were taken to hospital to be treated for carbon monoxide poisoning.
Reports indicate the gas leak was linked to a stove. Enbridge Gas responded to the scene and the gas to the property was shutoff. Crews remained on scene for several hours to throughly ventilate the scene before allowing residents and business owners back into the effected buildings.
London fire officials are reminding the public to test their CO alarms monthly and have annual inspections done on all fuel burning appliances to stay safe from carbon monoxide poisoning.
