Ontario government doles out $2.1M to London-area manufacturers

A pair of manufacturing companies in London and Elgin County are set to share a total investment of over $2 million from the province to support the creation of new jobs.

Economic Development and Job Creation and Trade Minister Vic Fedeli, Lambton-Kent-Middlesex MPP Monte McNaugton, and Elgin-Middlesex-London MPP Rob Flack attended Edge Automation Inc. in London on Monday to announce support of the automated solutions manufacturer's investment of $5.2-million to expand operations.

Edge Automation's funding includes plans to move to a larger facility, buy new equipment, and enterprise a resource and planning system. The province is supporting the project with a $778,000 investment through the Regional Development Program (RDP) to create 13 new jobs with the company.

Elsewhere, in the Forest City's neighbour, the Railway City, Takumi Stamping Canada Inc. is also set to receive support from the government in addition to its nearly $9 million investment. The St. Thomas automotive parts manufacturer also plans to branch out its plant and add new operating equipment. A $1.3-million investment from the province will help add 65 new job opportunities there.

"Our government is proud to support local manufacturers as they look to expand their operations and create more jobs," said Fedeli. "We're creating the right conditions to attract more investments to southwestern Ontario from both global companies like Volkswagen and local businesses like Edge Automation and Takumi Stamping Canada Inc."

The province said it is investing over $100 million through its RDP from 2019 to 2023 to support "distinct regional priorities and challenges." Over the last four years, the government has helped fund 75 projects through the program creating nearly 1,500 jobs in Ontario.
