Family pet was fatally poisoned: Norfolk OPP

Provincial police have launched an animal cruelty investigation after a Waterford family's dog was poisoned to death.

The 2-year-old French Mastiff named Bain was rushed to a local veterinary hospital on March 16 where he was pronounced dead.

The tanned coloured dog had become sick that afternoon at his Bruce Street home. His owners called Norfolk OPP to investigate.

Results of tests conducted by the clinic found Bain had ingested a large amount of poison, OPP said Thursday.

"I spoke to the owner of Bain and the owner is still visibly upset with what has happened to their family pet," said Constable Ed Sanchuk. "If anyone has any information in the Waterford area, knows of someone who may have spoken about this, has any information surrounding this investigation at all we are asking that you have the courage to pick up that phone and contact police or Crime Stoppers."

The investigation is ongoing.

Anyone with information can call police at 1-888-310-1122 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 (TIPS).
