OPP seek witnesses to hit and run outside of St. Thomas

Investigators are looking for potential witnesses of a hit and run out crash involving a motorcyclist near St. Thomas early Tuesday evening.

Just before 7 p.m., emergency crews, including members of the Elgin County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), responded to a crash at the intersection of John Wise Line and Quaker Road in Central Elgin.

When police arrived, they located an injured 24-year-old motorcyclist. The individual was taken to hospital with serious injuries however, the second driver involved in the collision was not on scene according to officers.

"The other involved vehicle failed to remain at the collision scene and was last seen travelling northbound on Quaker Road," read a statement from OPP. The involved vehicle is described as a newer model dark coloured Ford SUV with a missing rear window and is believed to be driven by a male in his 50's."

Police say the suspect vehicle will have significant damage to the front and driver's side of the vehicle. Investigators would like to locate the vehicle and driver as soon as possible.

The OPP West Region Traffic Incident Management and Enforcement (TIME) team are attending the collision scene to assist with the investigation.

John Wise Line between Yarmouth Centre and Springwater Road, and Quaker Road between Southdale Line and Pleasant Valley Line was closed for a couple of hours while members of the OPP Traffic Incident Management and Enforcement (TIME) team assisted with the investigation. The area was reopened just before 10 p.m.
