Provincial police have confirmed that the discovery of a deceased person led to the overnight closure of a rest stop on Highway 401 near Woodstock earlier this week.
Shortly after 2 a.m. Monday, members of the Oxford County Ontario Provincial Police launched a death investigation at the Woodstock OnRoute located along the eastbound side of Highway 401 in South-West Oxford Township.
According to investigators, a 34-year-old man was located unresponsive at the service centre, at which time life-saving measures were performed.
The man was then taken to hospital where he was declared dead. It has not been made clear where in the facility the man was found. As a result of the investigation, the OnRoute was closed for several hours while officers conducted their probe.
A post-mortem is scheduled to take place. Police say there is no threat to public safety. However, the investigation remains ongoing.
