London shooting suspect arrested in 'high-risk takedown'

A teen wanted in a London shooting that sent a man to hospital earlier this year has been arrested.

Zainaldeen Sakr, 18, was arrested in a high-risk takedown in Middlesex County Saturday afternoon.

Sakr has been wanted by London police since late February on charges of aggravated assault, two counts of discharging a firearm with intent to wound/endanger life or prevent arrest, two counts of possession of a restricted or prohibited firearm without a licence, and two counts of possession of a firearm or ammunition contrary to a prohibition order. The charges stem from a shooting in the area of Hyde Park Road and Fanshawe Park Road on February 17. Two men were sitting in a parking lot in that area when they were approached by another man who fired a handgun at them around 8 p.m.

One of the men was taken to hospital with non-life threatening injuries, the other was not hurt.

Five days later, London police publicly released Sakr's mugshot and asked the public for information about his whereabouts.

On Saturday, Middlesex OPP received a report of someone matching Sakr's description at the intersection of Ilderton and Hyde Park roads in Ilderton. Officers arrived and performed a high-risk takedown to take the man into custody.

A loaded handgun was seized.

Sakr now faces an additional 16 charges including possession of a firearm or ammunition contrary to prohibition order, carrying a concealed prohibited device or ammunition, unauthorized possession of a firearm, unauthorized possession of a weapon, failure to comply with probation order, and possession of drugs.
