Suspect sought after Strathroy-area senior scammed

Strathroy-Caradoc police are hoping the public can help them identify a fraud suspect.

The police service released a photo Monday of a suspect and vehicle they believe were involved in the recent scamming of a local senior.

According to police, a person posing as an RCMP officer called the senior and claimed their grandson had been arrested. The caller stated the senior would need to provide a large sum of money to hire a lawyer. He added the cash would be returned after the senior's grandson was released from custody, police said.

The suspect went to the senior's home to pick up the undisclosed amount of money.

It wasn't until after the cash was handed over that the senior realized that this was a grandparent scam.

Police are now looking for a man described as Asian, in his 30s, with black hair. He was wearing a blue medical mask, Adidas jacket, black pants, a green V-neck shirt, and black shoes.

The man was driving a Black SUV that was possibly a Mercedes or BMW, police said.

Anyone with information about this incident is asked to call police at 519-245-1250 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).
