Pending winter storm prompts school bus cancellations

As another winter storm is to move across southwestern Ontario Friday afternoon, school buses outside of London are cancelled for the day.

Buses for Middlesex, Oxford, and Elgin counties and the Red Zone (the area south of Highway 401 inside London) won’t be on the roads Friday, according to MyBigYellowBus.ca. To see the full list of bus cancellations click here.

School purpose vehicles in the City of London will be running on schedule.

The decision to cancel county buses came as a Texas low is expected to move into the region, bringing heavy and blowing snow. Environment Canada has upgraded a winter storm watch to a warning for London-Middlesex and Oxford. Elgin is under a winter weather travel advisory. According to the national weather agency, the snow will begin to fall in the afternoon or early evening. Up to 20 cm could fall with a snowfall rate up to 4 cm/h possible. The system will continue to hammer the region overnight and taper off Saturday morning.

The London District Catholic and Thames Valley District school boards have confirmed all schools will be open on Friday, despite buses being cancelled in many areas.
