Impaired charge laid after OPP stop stolen vehicle

Charges have been laid after a vehicle driven by a suspected impaired driver in Middlesex County turned out to be stolen.

OPP were called about a possible impaired driver in the westbound lanes of Highway 401 near Wellington Road around 7:30 a.m. on Tuesday. Officers found the vehicle stopped on Colonel Talbot Road. They determined the vehicle had been reported stolen in Toronto.

The driver was arrested and tested for drug use, police said.

A 23-year-old Brampton man has been charged with impaired driving, possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000, possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000, possession of drugs, and failure to comply with release order.

He was held pending a bail hearing, police said.
