Charges laid after copper wire theft

London police say an arrest has been made after somebody forced their way into two local businesses on a quest for copper wire.

On the night of January 20, 2023, a man reportedly entered a building in the area of Belmont Drive and Wharncliffe Road South and stole an undisclosed amount of copper wire.

Two days later, police say a second business was broken into near Adelaide Street North and Fanshawe Park Road East and the suspect got away with yet another stash of copper wire.

Both incidents were captured on video surveillance, according to police. Officers were able to positively identify the same suspect in both break and enters.

A 35-year-old London man has been charged with two counts of break and enter and theft, as well as two counts of failing to comply with an undertaking.

The accused is scheduled to appear in London court on Thursday.

Anyone with information relating to this incident is asked to call the London Police Service at (519) 661-5670 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
