SIU investigating after driver hurt during pursuit in Woodstock

The province's police watchdog has been called to investigate an incident in Woodstock last week that left two people, including an officer, injured.

According to Woodstock police, officers were called at around 8:20 p.m. on January 25 about a driver who took off from the scene of several crashes. Police allege the suspect was operating an Audi that had been reported stolen.

Later on, police came across the vehicle on Ingersoll Road, at which time, the suspect vehicle and a marked cruiser collided head on.

"The suspect driver received a serious, but non-life-threatening injury," a statement from Woodstock police read. "The male was transported to hospital and was later released."

A police officer was treated for minor injuries. The accused, a 31-year-old man, remains in custody.

Woodstock police have notified the Special Investigations Unit (SIU), and it has since invoked its mandate.

More details will be released as they become available.
