73-year-old driver charged in collision that killed pedestrian

A week after a pedestrian was killed in a collision in east London, police have announced charges against a 73-year-old woman.

Shawn V. George, 54, of London was hit on Hamilton Road near Watmar Avenue around 6:30 p.m. last Monday. He was taken to hospital where he later died from his injuries.

The driver of the vehicle involved remained on scene, police said.

Trudy Diane Mitchell of London is charged with careless driving causing death and is scheduled to appear in court on March 20.

The collision was the second one of the year in which a pedestrian was fatally struck. On January 7, Kevin Mourant, 56, of London was hit while crossing Oxford Street at Colborne Street. He was pronounced dead at the scene. Last week, police announced 21-year-old Dylan Van Den Kerkhof Smith of London was charged with careless driving causing death and driving without a licence in relation to the crash.
